Let’s start with the basics… what is an RSS feed? RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication”. In terms of your blog, your rss feed is a feed of your blog posts. When someone subscribes to your feed they will be notified when you add a new blog post by the rss aggregator they use. An aggregator accesses the RSS feeds of websites a person subscribes to and organizes the results. That is a very basic description.

There are 3 main ways you can use RSS feeds:

1. You must put rss buttons (rss chicklets) on your blog so readers can easily subscribe to your feed… that way they’ll come back!
2. You should submit your rss feed to rss directories, much like you do with articles, videos etc.
3. You can subscribe to rss feeds to automatically add content to your website

How to get your rss feed

This is very easy. If you use Wordpress, then it creates a feed for you automatically:
http://www.yourdomain.___/feed/
Basically just add /feed/ to the end of your domain.

If for any reason you need to create it yourself, an extremely popular rss creator is Feedburner.com.

• You just sign up for a Google account or sign in with your Adwords account.
• Enter your feed address and hit ‘Next’
• Enter the details about your feed name
• Once feed is burnt take note of the feed address
• Now choose what platform you are going to put your rss button/chicklet on and follow the instructions

Even though you have an rss button on your site it is still a good idea to add the rss aggregator buttons that are commonly used so your feed goes into the mix of the aggregator the reader always use ie. Google, My Yahoo, My MSN etc.
TIP: Always use Subscribe, Google, My Yahoo, My AOL and then others you are familiar with. Between 5 and 8 is a good amount.

TIP: Many Themes now have an RSS chicklet on the theme so there is no need to add the button to your blog. Just see if you can see the rss logo, “Subscribe” “Subscribe: Comments Posts”… or something like that.

Use rss feeds as Content

This is a way to get additional content onto your blogs but IT SHOULD NEVER BE ALONE. It can be up to 25% of your total content and to make it more accepted by Google you can add a paragraph to the start of the feed to add some uniqueness to it.

To do this you find the rss feeds you want and then add them to your blog by using a plug in called Feed Wordpress.

IMPORTANT: must stress that if this is your main blog that you want build on and keep for years to come then do not use this technique. If you are doing all you can to keep on the good side of Google… DON’T use this technique. It is for additional, supporting blogs that you need help building the content for but aren’t really important to rank well with Google.

• There are massive amounts of traffic available for video
• Video is extremely viral
• Many people are more likely to watch a video than read a blog.
  TIP: People can listen and keep surfing so even though you don’t have their full attention they haven’t left you. Keep throwing in some huge benefits throughout your video to bring their attention back to you especially at the end when you want them to perform the intended action. Summarize and load the back end with HUGE benefits/solutions & your amazing OFFER.
• Video can be easily resubmitted with a different title, tags and description and there is no duplicate content penalty. Google only knows what it is by what you call it and tag it so use different titles, filenames and keywords.
  TIP: I have heard that here are ways to track duplicate video so you can change around the duration of your video (add a longer graphic at end etc., change the format (.avi .mov), different music, different filename). This is totally up to you and I don’t know how true or important it is at this stage but if you like to err on the side of caution then you can easily do these things.

But how do I make a video?

There are several ways you can make a video and they are all quite easy and relatively inexpensive… especially for the benefits you get out of them. You can use any of these or a combination of any of them.

• Slides with you talking over it or just music
• Screen capture with or without audio
• Vision shot on a video camera – Make sure your can upload your vision to your computer.
• Pictures, Images, Photos

Here are some tips for making a successful video:

• Be natural and try and inflect energy and personality, try not to talk with a monotone voice. This will make watching your video easier… if you’re boring, they will hit that little ‘x’ in the top right hand corner!
• Don’t babble… be clear and concise
• Grab their attention and state a huge benefit at the start and slowly drip feed the solutions over the video until they can’t wait for the end and they are so amped up they will do anything you ask them to.
• Use the video as a Sales letter and treat it the same way… Headline, Emotional story, Benefits, Scarcity, Reveal Product, Instruction”
• ESSENTIAL: Make sure you leave a CLEAR INSTRUCTION at the end of what you want them to do. So many people do these great videos and lose the conversion because they don’t make it clear what they want the action to be. Use both Vision AND Audio ie. “Click on the link below for www.mydomain.com now and sign up for xxxxx before (add urgency or scarcity statement)”
• Send them to a seperate page where they can only do the 1 thing you want them to do… fill in the optin form, purchase your product, click on your affiliate link etc. Don’t send them to a blog with 3 affiliate links and your little optin box half way down the page… 1 page with 1 option!
• Try not to make it a sales pitch… yes I know it is but treat it like it’s a story.

Slideshow/Pictures:

You can create slideshows and then put them to music or talk over them with screen capture technology.

TIP: If you make a slideshow you should also submit the slides to Slideshow sites (see Slideshow Directories at end)

• Google Docs – If you haven’t been introduced to Google Docs then check it out, oh and it’s free! It is an online basic Office with a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation and form. It is great for outsourcing work or working with a virtual team as you can share it and allocate tasks etc. Sorry sidetracked… use the presentation function… it is very easy and will most likely be fine for what you are doing.
• OpenOffice – Same concept as Google Docs.
• Powerpoint (There is a 60 day free trial as part of the 2007 Office Professional Package)
• Keynote – Part of iWorks for Macs.
• Animoto – I love animoto! The quality looks great and it is really effective. You can be as creative as you want.

Video – (slideshow with voice, screen capture etc.)

• Camtasia – Camtasia Studio is by far the best product for screen capture but it is expensive at about $299. It may be something you invest in in the future. In the meantime they offer a full version 30 day free trial… pump out as many quality videos as you can and you may be able to pay for it when the trial’s up!
• CamStudio – CamStudio is an opensource version of Camtasia. It doesn’t have some of the advanced features like timeline editing, adding callouts, multiple voice tracks, re-dubbing, creating menu-based videos, etc but it does screen capture well so if all you need is screen capture then use CamStudio. If you find you have to edit something then you could use Windows Movie Maker or iMovie and see if that does the job.
• JingProject – This is similar to the above and is free (and made by Tech Smith – the same guys who produce Camtasia). It is great for recording conversations with screen capture. The restriction is that the videos must be under 5 minutes.
• Final Cut Express – This is a basic version of Professional Editing software by Apple. I am only putting it in here because I have been asked about it as people have heard “gurus” reference it. The learning curve may be big but if you are technically minded and want to include high end video into your marketing business in the future then you could keep it in mind.
  There is a way to install it on Windows though I believe it can be problematic but I am no expert and you should research it before purchasing. The express version is around $200, whist the full studio version is $999.
• Article Video Robot – This turns articles into videos. It has a Free Trial but the trial does not allow you to export or submit the video you do. It is good though to see the quality and how the software works to see if it suits you.

• PLR Article Pros – Limited Edition, very cheap but have not bought so cannot confirm quality.
• Spin Ready PLR – This is a Jason Potash product. It is a membership where you get a number of ‘coded’ or pre-spun articles every month plus a credit system to ‘purchase’ from their PLR in your chosen niche. It is a great service and even better you get 3 of Jason’s Article software products… Article Announcer, Content Composer (a great product) and CC Site Builder whilst you are a member. One thing to consider is that ALL of the members get the same pre-spun articles SO if everyone uses all of the spun articles then nothing is unique unless you have done some more to it yourself… hope that makes sense! It is still a great service though, especially considering the software you get with it.
• IMBuzz - This is quality Software PLR. They release a rebrandable software product monthly that consumers would be interested in… twitter, article submitter etc. Each product comes with a rebrander.

  These are your key to directory success as Google loves them. The reason for this is that they manually review sites and are quite particular about what sites they let in. If they accept your site you have a high quality back link that Google loves.
  TIP: A strategy to ensure you are accepted (not guaranteed though) is to have at least 20 unique and valuable posts on your blog that have been gradually added over 10+ days (you can back date posts before you publish to “fake” this… the more the better) and DO NOT monetize your blog yet. Your blog home page needs to be clean and professional looking. Submit to the SEO friendly directories and then after 30 days you can monetize your blog as most will have looked at your blog by then. Keep adding posts every day or two to show that it is a “loved” and current blog updated regularly.

Like any submissions this can be a time consuming process! You have 2 options to combat this:

• You can purchase a directory submitter for the Normal Directories… up to you but I don’t believe it is worth it
• You can pay a company a certain amount for manual SEO friendly directory submissions… much better option in my opinion. You can get 100 SEO friendly directory submissions for around $15. This doesn’t guarantee acceptance just manual submissions by people who do it all the time. When you think how long it would take you to do it yourself… $15 is pretty good.
  info.vilsilencer.com have a manual service or you can Google “manual directory submissions” and find one. Make sure they state “manual submission” and “SEO friendly directories”.

Some important notes:

• Keep your site clean and professional for the 30 days after you have done the SEO directories.
• Google likes to see progressive, slow links so the more advisable option is to use a “rolling submission” where they are submitted randomly over 90 days. If you choose this method then it is easier you to do the work yourself… just do 10-15 every week for 12 weeks off the info.vilesilencer.com Top 100 list or you can buy a “rolling submissions” package but it is a bit more expensive.
• Directory submissions aren’t as effective as they used to be so include it as part of your overall strategy but your time can be better spent. Spending $15 on 100 directories or max of 45mins a week is more than adequate.

There are many strategies for obtaining backlinks… but the aim is to get high page rank links and lots of them which as we know can be time consuming. Here are some invaluable tools, resources and education in this most important area.

With these you submit articles or blog posts and they get distributed to the network of blogs. Some of these blog networks are built for the company whilst others use blog networks made up of other members or publishers who sign up for content.

Linx Boss – This is an automated back linking service with tracking and flexibility. You get 1000 back links a month for up to 5 sites and you only need to enter in the information once. The links come from PR 2-6 and are over 2 years old all with their own incoming links but none of the sites are interlinked. There are 2 ways to successfully use article marketing and you need to have a strategy for each option. Internet marketers fail because they don’t grasp the difference and use one technique for both.

You also want to mix up your links to home page and internal pages… and alter the anchor text ie. use website address, keywords, LSI keywords etc. For recognized backlinks you want to keep your content 100% unique when Google first sees it… that’s the key “when Google first sees it”. After Google indexes it and sees traffic going to it you can then reuse the article by spinning it and using on less important sites and/or mass submitting it for traffic.
   It is up to you as to how “unique” you want to be… the minimum you want to change an indexed article/blog post/web content is 30% so rewrite the 1st paragraph, last paragraph and change some wording in the other paragraphs. You can use Article Spinning software to help with this by rewriting once and turning into 10 to hundreds of unique articles (see below)
   TIP: Publish unique content on your site first or premium Article Directories. Once it has been indexed by Google and they see some traffic and links going to it, spin it and publish in article directories.
   TIP: EzineArticles.com has quite strict guidelines… and that’s why Google loves them! They won’t accept a lot of spun content so you need high quality, original content for them but it is definitely worth it.
2. For Traffic
   When you are using Article submissions for traffic you want to submit to as many directories as you can. You are not concerned with duplicate content as you are not wanting links so mass submit your article to as many directories as possible. An automated article submitter save you a lot of time (see below)
   TIP: Although you are mass submitting you still want to use high quality content to encourage click & therefore traffic… if your article isn’t very good who is going to click on the link to your site to read more?

There are services available now where you submit your articles which get distributed to publishers who accept content on their site. They get put on themed related sites so the article and link is relevant. These are great for backlinks and show a variety of links as opposed to just the normal social bookmarking, article directories and video sites. You can’t control where they go so you have no control over the Page Rank or quality of the site so it is not a use alone strategy though it is a great additional one. One last point is that you can become one of the blogs that accept articles… free unique content!

• Unique Article Wizard - Posts to blog network. Also has: submit to article directories, videos, audio and pictures, spinning ability (though I am not 100% sure how this works. I will let you know when I sign up late Feb) and you can post articles to your own blogs controlling everything from one central point.
• Article Marketing Automation – A good service.
• Content Crooner – Submits to Article Directories and the Blog Network
• ArticleQast - though they use the same network as Unique Article Wizard & UAW has more features unless you get ArticleQast through StomperNet which is outstanding.

Article Directory Submitters

Article Directory Submitters automate the process for you as article submission is a very time consuming task. Some article submitters will automate 99% of the process, whilst others require you to do some work. There are many on the market so try to get one which also allows you to spin content and has the top article directories included.

Here are a few you can check out. I have not used any of these so I cannot comment or recommend, I just did some research in the Warrior Forum and these were the ones recommended:

• Unique Article Wizard – This is web based. It is a monthly subscription and has a Money Back Guarantee. It has an outsource article writing arm and a spinning capability. It submits to hundreds of article directories, ezines and over 10,000 blogs. It will post to your own blogs so you can manage all of your content from one area. It also manages video, pictures and audio. AND if you want you can have articles submitted to your blog from other members (that’s the 10,000+ blog network). It’s pretty amazing.
• Magic Article Rewriter and Submitter – This also looks pretty good but there was a note saying it doesn’t submit to the top directories… you may need to check that one out. You can buy them both separately so up to you. There are videos on the sales page so make sure you watch them (if you can put up with the automated voice) as the software looks pretty good.
• Article Submitter (Brad Callen) – There are 2 versions of this. A free one which submits to 80 directories but some of them don’t work and you have to do one directory at a time OR a paid one which has over 700 directories and is completely automated… there wasn’t any feedback on this product though Brad Callen in general is highly regarded and normally produces great products. • Mass Article Control – It only submits to 10 directories, although you can upgrade to 20. It has a spinning capability and has 8000 words in the database. Mixed reports so you need to really know what you are going to use it for.

There are 2 types of spinners: fully automated and ones where you need to do a bit of work re-writing sentences or selecting words to replace. Whilst the 1st options sounds amazing and can produce 1000 articles from just 1 article, usually only 5% of those articles are just gibberish. If you put in 30 mins with a good spinning program then you can create 10+ unique, quality articles that the directories will accept. The more time and options you put into the system, the more spun articles you will get.

• The Best Spinner – The name speaks for itself, it REALLY IS! This has a HUGE database (hundreds of thousands) of useful synonyms for not only words, but also phrases. It is very impressive. Lots of great features which make spinning articles really quick, easy and high quality. Watch the video on the Sales page to see it’s power, if you spin then it will be worth 15 minutes of your time as it will save you days over time. It also includes PLR as you can use other users submitted articles, you can add your articles to the directory with your links for backlinks AND you can post straight to Wordpress… I cannot recommend it highly enough!
• Magic Article Rewriter – Seperate software to Magic Article Submitter but you can purchase both together for a discounted price.

Instant Article Wizard 2.0 – This is a software program by Jonathan Leger which speeds up the writing process BIG TIME. You put in your keyword and it will go and grab heaps of sentences from articles using that keyword. you then drag the sentences you want into your article and you can have a new article, in on a topic you know nothing about in minutes. You can then submit as is or quickly fix it up for complete uniqueness… maybe use a spinner at the same time so you can get 10+ articles from that one. Copyscape – Check to see if you article shows any duplicate content on the web. .05c per search. Good if you’ve rewritten an PLR or want to check articles you’ve had outsourced to ensure they are 100% unique.

Article Checker – Free duplicate content checker. Check your article against the web. Not as detailed or accurate as Copyscape but will do the job.

GoScorpio Dupe Check – Free. Compare 2 articles to see how similar they are. Also has a keyword density checker. I haven’t used this so cannot give any more details than the download page.
